The Mount Gambier Community Mayor's Christmas Appeal

Mount Gambier Central has been a proud community partner of the Mount Gambier Community Mayor's Christmas Appeal for over 15 years.

Each year the centre donates 100% of the funds raised through recycling the food court's cans and bottles to the appeal as well as $1 from each Santa photo sitting is also donated to help those in need in our community.

The Mount Gambier Community Mayor's Christmas Appeal

Each year the Mount Gambier Community Mayor's Christmas Appeal plays a critical role in ensuring that vulnerable and isolated people in our city are able to experience the joy of Christmas.

All donations to the appeal are distributed through the Christmas Cheer Program delivered by the following agencies:

  • Uniting Care
  • ac.care
  • St Vincent De Paul
  • The Salvation Army.

Additional coordination and support is offered through the Sunset Community Kitchen and Families SA.

Why support the Mount Gambier Community Christmas Appeal:

  • The appeal relies solely on the support of local donors – the service is additional to the role played by local agencies and is not possible without contributions from local individuals, families, groups and businesses.
  • Demand for support is increasing and the service is becoming stretched - while contributions from the local community have been reasonably consistent, the demand for support at Christmas has increased by almost 20% over the past five years.
  • The appeal is a unique local initiative - 100% of the funds are sourced and distributed locally.

The City of Mount Gambier supports the Mount Gambier Community Mayor's Christmas Appeal by acting as a collection point for the agencies. Outside any fees charged by the financial institutions, 100% of your donation is distributed among the participating agencies.

Donations can also be made through the following channels:

  • By phoning (08) 8721 2555 with your credit card details on hand. Council staff will email you a tax invoice.
  • In person at the City of Mount Gambier Customer Service counter – Civic Centre, 10 Watson Terrace.
  • By sending a cheque made out to ‘City of Mount Gambier’ PO Box 56 Mount Gambier SA 5290 with advice that the cheque is a donation to the Community Mayor’s Christmas Appeal, to enable a tax invoice to be issued.
  • Tins and a ‘tap and go’ EFTPOS system will also be available at local businesses.

Any questions regarding the appeal can be made by phoning 8721 2555 or emailing city@mountgambier.sa.gov.au
